I got my kindle last Christmas and its like another limb. I've bought the leather cover from amazon.co.uk as well as a "skin". I find the leather cover, quite heavy and awkward to use, so its stuffed in a drawer somewhere, whether it will see the light again, I don't know, but I wanted something light and will protect the screen from scratches etc.
I searched a lot online and seeing as I'm pretty new to knitting I wanted something simple to do. So in the end I came up with this...

It took me two days to make it, knit and put together and I'm really proud of myself, this is the first pattern I've ever made up and I think it looks great and the comments are lovely too, so much in fact that I'm making one for my cousin in a different cover.
So if you want to make this cover then this is what you'll need:
Materials-5mm needles (UK 6/ US8)
-Worsted DK wool (I used teal)
-Tapestry needle
-Scissors
Method1) Cast on 30 stitches, on a pair of 5mm needles. It won't seem like a lot but its great for the width of this as there will be a little breathing room for the kindle too!
2) Knit every row until you get to 43cm.
3) Leave yourself a gap so that you have a bit of a "flap" to go over at the end.
4) Cast off and leave a quite a bit of wool at the end so you can sew up one of the edges
5) Use your tapestry needle to sew up the sides.
Tip use the first/last stitch to tie up the edges and sew each row up that way you won't get holes in the sides! and then once you are at the end of one side, at the bottom of the cover put your needle through a few stitches and make a loop with it. Then snip the end off, just make sure its tight so it won't unravel!
See picture belowI used pink so you can see :)

6) Get another piece of wool so you can sew up the other side. Start off the way you finished in step 5, and sew up the sides again and finish in the same way as step 5.
You should now have the finished product :) I hope you are as happy with yours as I am with mine. If you want to add something to it, go ahead, but if you don't know how to do it, ask someone who does. I haven't got a clue XD.
If you have any questions or comments, please don't be afraid to do so.
